Tosoh Quartz uses Statistical Process Control to monitor its manufacturing processes so that quality is “built in” rather than “inspected in." This allows the detection of manufacturing variations or errors to take place in real-time (rather than when the product is final inspected). In addition to SPC, TQ Portland also uses various problem solving tools such as Failure, Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) and Design of Experiment (DOE) to determine the root cause of internal failures when they do arise.
